21 DAYS?!
CONCERT AND SPEAK-IN TO LEARN ABOUT THE 21 DAY BLOWOUT PLAN
21 Day Blowout Threatens Nova Scotia Coast
Here’s the problem: The so-called “Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board” appointed by the Harper Government and the Province is about to quietly give Shell Oil permission to do “exploratory drilling” in the Shelburne Basin— which is what BP was doing in the Gulf of Mexico when it blew, killed 11 people, and destroyed the local fisheries.
The application that they are about to approve allows Shell 21 days to cap such a blowout. REPEAT 21 DAYS—40 some tide cycles which will spread oil AND “chemical dispersant” in and out of the Bay of Fundy on the highest tides in the world! They have no plan for mitigation except to add the dispersant which makes the oil over 50 times more toxic to marine life than oil alone!
The decision to allow this to happen is to be made, AFTER THE ELECTION, of course, sometime this fall, by a 5-man appointed board whose members work as directors and consultants to many oil companies, and includes one, Doug Gregory, whose work for Shell Oil “spanned three decades”—so says the Board’s website. Imagine highlighting his conflict of interest on their own website! They must be pretty confident of their power and they WILL allow this to happen, to threaten our communities and our way of life, unless we, the citizens of Nova Scotia, Canada, and our neighbouring States MAKE A LOTTA NOISE!
Let’s gather on the Shelburne Waterfront on the
afternoon of October 3rd to express our opposition to these permits—
and to the lack of public input into these critically important decisions—and to hear from our federal candidates about what they intend to do to fix it.
Please join us, Oct. 3rd, from 2 to 4 pm on the beautiful Shelburne Harbour, outdoors, weather permitting, under roof, if not.
If you need a chair, please bring your own.
